Jean-Pierre Rault works on motif but his real delight is
a good soft lead pencil sketch. Find the good light, emphasized
values and there you have a well-prepared watercolour. The
ideal thing is to see the watercolour in your head and think
well about it before beginning, so as to get into it. A quick
set up with an only obsession : keeping the light, the composition,
the values distribution and then the paintbrushes waltz can
begin. The pleasure lies in the making, if the pigments work
in an appropriate humidity, then the watercolour is alive.
His favourite subjects : an old street, a harbour, a landscape,
people
